Marginalia

Writing in books isn’t just something people do for fun, there’s a name for it – marginalia, and it’s worthy of study. I just checked out a book on marginalia from my library’s website. It’s a book about writing in books, how cool is that? I’ll let you know what I find out later. And while you’re waiting, here’s a link to a video that explains some reasons why writing in books is a good idea. And although it pains me to say so, he makes some valid points!

  1. I didn't watch the video yet, Mary, but I find it fascinating that there is a book about that!!

  2. I once bought a used text with notes in the margins. Made me crazy. But, if they are MY notes, I am more apt to remember my handwriting than the printed text, and it helps in taking tests. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Mary--It sounds like you're tip-toeing your way towards the dark side. Next time you post about this, you'll be using a Sharpie all over your books, you'll be ripping out pages from magazines all willy-nilly, and you'll be traveling across the county with your "How I Turned into a Book Hooligan" presentation...

  5. I love books about books! And perhaps, Sioux, I will! I think my new career goal is to be a book hooligan, and then I will write a book about it, and then write IN that book!!!!
