Do you have any New Year's Resolutions for writing?

Are you overwhelmed with all the reading and writing you want to do? This year I have a few specific projects I want to work on, and lots of books to read, but with so much information out there, it’s not easy. Checking emails alone can take a half hour or more to read and respond to because I follow links to Facebook or other websites that take me away from my initial goal. By the time I’m finished reading those, I either forgot what I wanted to do, or ran out of time to do it!

I don’t think I’m alone, because several of my writer friends have mentioned that they are cutting back on some activities to focus more on others. So tell me, how do you stay focused on your goals?

Write soon,
Mary

  1. I am an early riser, but still I invest too much time on social media. I have vowed to write first and visit later.

  2. Good advice! I think I'll try that.

  3. Mary--

I meant to comment on this, and then got off-track.

I (like Linda) get tangled up in blogs. I don't do Facebook, so that's one monkey I don't have on my back.

I work best under pressure so when a deadline is looming over me, I get focused because I don't have a choice. Not good advice, but it works for me (most of the time).

  4. Yes Mary, I have a hard time catching up, so I take one day (lately it's been once a week) to view blogs. I try do my writing first, but that doesn't always happen.

  5. Thanks for sharing. I, like Sioux, become more focused as a deadline nears, and ignore everything else until I finish that project. And Lynn, I try to limit my blog and Facebook time to once a week also, but it doesn't always happen!
